How to prepare your home for a homebirth

We hope you find these handy tips useful for prepping your home for your upcoming Homebirth

💧 Waterproof mattress cover. Even if you’re planning a water birth, it’s still a great idea to protect your mattress and bedding. A great alternative is a shower curtain!

💧 Old towels – these are great to have on hand to mop up any spills or to add extra protection to your bed/couch. They can always be thrown out after use

💧 Electrolyte drink and high protein snacks. Keeping your energy stores as full as possible during labour is a great idea. Pre buying snacks that are easily digestible and having electrolyte drinks stored away is good prep in the lead up to your Homebirth

💧 TENS – probably the best and most useful piece of equipment in your tool kit. Our TENS are specially designed for labour and birth and have proven to be effective in relieving discomfort during birth

💧 Birthing ball/Swiss ball. Probably the cheapest and most versatile purchase you’ll make! These are great during the latter stages of pregnancy, as well as in labour. There are numerous positions that you can use your Swiss ball in during labour which will help the birthing process

💧 Pets! Your pooch might be the most sociable and friendly family member but it’s a good idea to have a back up plan for your furry friends once you’re in labour. You don’t want them getting into your birthing space and breaking your line of focus.
